Pet Care Tips

Make sure your pet is always wearing a collar and identification tag. If you are separated from your pet, it helps others to ID the pet and owner and return him or her back to you. We recommend having your pet microchipped to provide identification of your pet through scanning by a local veterinarian or shelter if lost. For a nominal, one-time fee and a few minutes of your time, you can have peace of mind that if your pet gets lost, this tracking system will help reunite you with your pet.- Dogs around the Mid-South area should use heartworm prevention medication year-round. Heartworm disease can be fatal in both dogs and cats.
- Spaying or neutering your pet can prevent behavioral problems, reduce the risk of cancer and provide many other health benefits. Talk to your vet today about spaying or neutering.
- In summer heat, your pet could suffer from heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Provide plenty of water and shade for your pets while they are outdoors so they can stay cool. Pets need exercise even when it is hot, but extra care needs to be taken with older dogs, short-nosed dogs and those with thick coats. On very hot days, limit exercise to hours of the day when it is not as hot, such as early morning or late evening hours.
- We recommend using the latest insect control products i.e. Frontline, ProMeris, and Revolution. It is important to be cautious when using over-the-counter flea and tick products because some can be toxic, even when used according to instructions.
